Obituary

STORY CITY- Gary (Andy) Anderson, 51, entered into rest after a two and a half year battle with melanoma cancer of the jaw, on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at home, in Story City Iowa. Andy leaves his wife, Cathy (Burns) Anderson; his two sons, Derek and Dalton; his parents, Mary and Roger Anderson of St. Louis Park Minnesota; and two sisters, Peg Anderson of Berkeley California and Kathy Hedstrom of Minnetonka. Gary (Andy) leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews who also loved him. Gary "Andy" was born in Owatonna and raised in St Louis Park Minnesota and spent time in Arizona and California prior to returning to the Midwest and settling in Story City for the last ten years. He spent much of his life surrounded by sports-whether it be the many year's playing slow pitch softball he enjoyed, his career as a radio sportscaster on KQWC in Ames, and previously in Webster City. Most importantly, he enjoyed coaching and watching his boys in their many activities. Gary (Andy) enjoyed many special times with family and friends fishing and enjoying life at Bear Lake in northern Minnesota. In recent years, Gary (Andy) was a car salesman at Gookin Ford in Story City. A visitation to celebrate Andy's life will be held on Tuesday evening, April 8th from 5 to 8pm at Immanual Lutheran Church in Story City. A memorial service will follow on Thursday, April 10th in Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance to the Andy Anderson Fund or the Israel Hospice Home in Ames. The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
