Gary A. Luing passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at his home in Lake Wales, FL. He was born April 24, 1937 in Collins, Iowa, to the late Dwight and Marjorie Luing. He was the first in his family to attain a college degree, and devoted his life to education. As the youngest Dean in the state of Florida, he retired from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton after 37 years as Dean of Business and a revered professor. As a lifelong learner and teacher, he had diverse interests in books, music, gardening, and nature. He honorably served 2 years as a first lieutenant in the 82 Airborne Corp. He was a man of the highest ethics and was deeply devoted to his family and God. In retirement, he divided his time between Florida and Mars Hill, NC and continued to touch many lives through his kindness and integrity. Gary is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sherry Luing; daughter, Dr. Heather Luing and grandchildren, Tristan, Nathaniel, and Lillian. He will be deeply missed. Due to Covid-19 there will not be a public service. A private burial will be at Collins Evergreen Cemetery in Collins. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling local arrangements.
