Obituary

Geneva Catherine Van Sickle, 95 of Nevada, died Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Geneva was born May 23, 1926, in McCallsburg, the daughter of Joseph and Ada (Sorensen) Hill. She graduated from Roland High School in 1945, where she played basketball. Following graduation, she went to work in Des Moines welding at a munitions plant. On December 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Morris "Morrie" Owen Van Sickle in Roland. Geneva worked many years for Donnelly's Marketing in Nevada and 11 years for 3M. She spent many years helping on the farm, delivering many lunches to the field. Geneva was a devoted member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nevada. She was active with Christian Women Fellowship (CWF), O.D.O. and participated in a neighborhood bible study. She enjoyed sewing, flowers and decorating cakes. Geneva was a great cook and loved to bake. She always put family first in anything she did. Geneva is survived by her children: Greg (Margene) Van Sickle of Spirit Lake, Jim (Deb) Van Sickle of Nevada and Peggy Longnecker of Nevada; her grandchildren: Angelina (Scot) Ferguson, Chrissy Pashia, Cory (Mary Kate) Van Sickle, Ashley Van Sickle, Nicole (David) Buse, AJ (Annie) Longnecker and Austin Longnecker; twelve great-grandchildren; her siblings: Jake Hill, Pauline Johnson, Dean (Marilyn) Hill, Lucy Hopkins, Linda (Mike) Halbach and Judy Hill; and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Shirl Kingsbury and Joan Egland; and her brothers, Joe Jr. Hill and Wayne Hill. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. The family requests face coverings be worn. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery (1026 1st Street) in Nevada. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Christian Church in memory of Geneva. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
