Georgiann Grant, 83, Nevada, died Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of pancreatic cancer.
Georgiann Grant, daughter of George and Anna (Goetsch) Kraft, was born March 30, 1940, at her parents' home in rural Renwick, IA. She graduated from Corwith High School in 1958. She attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, IA, for one year and then worked as a secretary for Conover & Doyle in Mason City, an egg carton manufacturer, until shortly after her marriage. She married Gerald George Gregory Grant on April 8, 1961, in Mason City. They lived in Britt, IA, and near Alexander, IA, while he worked as a hired man on farms before they started farming on their own in 1969 near Hampton, IA. They moved in 1976 to a farm near Nevada, IA, where Georgiann often could be found packing lunches, running equipment, and performing various other farming tasks alongside her husband.
She was a very active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
She enjoyed attending Iowa State University sporting events, attending her grandchildren's activities, gardening, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and solving word games.
Survivors include three children, Jeff and Jodi Grant of Sheldon, IA, Carmen and Brent Onken of Derby, KS, and Ken and Jill Grant of Nevada, IA; eight grandchildren, Addison and Christopher Hanson of Minneapolis, Brailey Grant of Indianapolis, Jessica Onken of Great Bend, KS, Rachel Onken of Franklin, NJ, Sarah Onken of Derby, KS, Emily and Jayden Butler of Roland, IA, Brian Grant of Nevada, IA, and Spencer Grant of Nevada, IA; two stepgrandchildren, Nick Butler of Roland, IA, and Lexi Butler of Roland, IA; two brothers, Ronald and Carrolee Kraft of Spokane, WA, and Richard and Marcia Kraft of Northwood, IA; four brothers-in-law, Robert and Vicki Grant of Latimer, IA, David and Lynne Grant of Clear Lake, IA, Thomas and Kim Grant of Britt, IA, and Robert Tallon of Cary, NC; five sisters-in-law, Joan Davis of Iowa City, Karen Ingham and Richard Nuehring of Rockwell, IA, Mary Cahalan and Tom Dale of Livingston, MT, Bonnie Telfer of Jacksonville, NC, and Joan Grant of Orlando, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald George Gregory Grant; a son, David Gerald Grant in infancy; her parents; four brothers-in-law, Michael Grant in infancy, Donald Grant, William Grant, and Rollin Ingham; two sisters-in-law, Linda Grant and Sandra Grant; a nephew, Michael Grant; and a niece, Donna Davis.
A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2023, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada with Pastor Kathleen Lotz officiating. Interment will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the A Welcome Space = A Welcome Place Heating & Cooling Project at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
