Obituary

Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Wisnieski, 84 of Nevada, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Green Hills Healthcare Center in Ames.

Jerry was born November 25, 1939, in Dodge, NE the son of Joseph Henry and Philomena Magdalen (Kreikemeier) Wisnieski. He graduated from Dodge High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Marcia Colleen Sullivan on August 9, 1960, in Jackson, NE. Jerry furthered his education, earning a bachelor's degree at Wayne State in 1960 where he played baseball and basketball. He earned a master's degree from the University of South Dakota and his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He taught high school math and coached at Wisner, NE, Laural, NE and Omaha Westside, before settling in Nevada and taking a teaching position with DMACC in Ankeny, where he taught for 31 years.

Jerry was a devoted long-time member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. He enjoyed all sports and coached his kids and many others in baseball and basketball. He had a big bark and a bigger heart. He loved spending time with his grandkids and attending all their activities. He also enjoyed traveling with Marcia and taking their bikes on trips. Together, they were able to enjoy bike trails in 15 states.

Jerry is survived by his wife Marcia of Nevada; his children: Barb (Scott) Trulin of Blair, NE, Dave (Barb) Wisnieski of Clive, Tom (Susan) Wisnieski of Mansfield, MA, Jeff (Jonna) Wisnieski of Norwalk and Julie Milner of Bothell, WA; his grandchildren: Stacie, Jason and Michelle Trulin, Mary Kate (Ethan) Tuftee, Jon, Anna, Zach, Kyle, Ben and Nick Wisnieski, Allison (Luke) DeVenney, Morgan Wisnieski, Max (Katie) Wisnieski, Jackson, Jenna and Josie Milner; his great-grandchildren Colton Flynn and Brooks DeVenney; and his sister Mary Ann (Dick) Tingelhoff of Wahoo, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Joe (Mary Ida) Wisnieski.

A private family memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. A public celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a later date.
