Gertrude Irene Severson passed away peacefully on January 19, 2020, at her home. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Gertrude was born May 26, 1927, in St. Joseph, IL to Roy and Rose (Meninga) Smith. She grew up in Ackley, IA and Fithian, IL. Gertrude was united in marriage to Curtis Severson on November 27, 1949, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, IA. Gertrude was employed by Donnelly's Marketing for 25 years. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, IA. She and her husband spent time traveling and playing golf. Gert also enjoyed bridge club and bowling. Left to cherish her memory are her two children: Karla of Nevada and Kent of Omaha, NE; a brother-in-law, LaVerne (Emma Jean) of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters: Mary Parish, Grace Fichtel, Dorothy Dohlman, Ethel Newby, Doris Windecker and three brothers: Henry, Harold and Raymond Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
