Gloria Carpenter, 96 of Ames, died Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Gloria was born July 21, 1926, in Collins, Iowa the daughter of Orrin Leslie and Sarah Mabel (Gilley) Smith. She graduated from Collins High School in 1945 and was united in marriage to Neil Adrian Carpenter on December 21, 1947, in Nashua, Iowa. Gloria was a member of the First Christian Church in Ames, the American Legion Axillary and was a Lioness with the Nevada Lions Club. She had worked for Oslund's Drug Store, Peterson's Hardware and at Dr. Walter's dentist practice. In her spare time, Gloria enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Gloria is survived by her sons, Michael Carpenter of Portage, WI, Geoffrey Carpenter of Am es and Tracy (Cindy) Carpenter of Roland; her grandchildren: Sarah Carpenter, Jeremy Carpenter, Daniel Carpenter, Ian (Kayleigh) Carpenter, Logan (Haley) Carpenter, Lucas Carpenter, and Heather Upton; her great-grandchildren, Finnley Carpenter, Dayton Carpenter and Daniel Carpenter Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; eight brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Carpenter.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the First Christian Church (611 Clark Ave.) in Ames. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Burial will be at the Collins Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Ames.
