July 21, 1953 – July 29, 2024
Gregory Thompson, 71, a lifelong resident of Nevada, Iowa passed away in his home of cardiac arrest on July 29, 2024. He was born in Nevada, IA to Harlan and Imogene (Halsted) Thompson where he grew up and graduated from Nevada High School in 1972. He spent his adult life working for Ames Computer Forms.
Greg loved gardening, riding his bicycle, driving on country roads and attending the Iowa State Fair. In recent weeks he enjoyed the 4th of July festivities in his hometown. He also attended the Story County Fair every day to see the 4-H exhibits and livestock as he had done for many years.
Our brother was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Winton Thompson. He is survived by William (Daphne) Thompson of Schenectady, NY, Camilla (William) Walker of Boulder, CO, Harlan "Butch" (Kris) Thompson of Knoxville, IA and Dennis (Atsani) Thompson of Chiang Mai, Thailand, as well as several nieces and nephews spread out across the United States.
Greg's cremains will be interred in the family plot at the cemetery in Roland, IA.
Greg Thompson's siblings invite you to attend a celebration of his life on Saturday May 3rd from 1 to 3 PM. The event will be held at the Central Presbyterian Church, 932 Fifth Street, Nevada, Iowa 50201. Refreshments will be served. Guests are welcome to share their favorite memories of Greg. Access to the Fellowship Hall is through the church's North door and then down 5 steps. Alternatively, there is access to an elevator through the door on the East side near the bell tower.
Memorials may be made to the Story County Fair Association.
