Harold D. Minear, 87, of Nevada, died Tuesday, February 01, 2005 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Harold was born November 17, 1917 in Riceville, Iowa the son of Wesley Carl and Mary O. (Bailey) Minear. He was united in marriage to Elsie Franklin September 14, 1941 at her parent's home in Marshalltown. This marriage ended after 48 years. Harold was a Union Carpenter specializing in case working. He also raised disease-free chickens for the United States Department of Agriculture. Harold enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar, having played with the Mellowettes at many dances. He is survived by four daughters: Lila Ann Minear of Des Moines, Iowa, Lynn Kieler of Iowa City, Iowa, Christie Swenson of Radcliffe, Iowa, Ellen Smitherman of Zearing, Iowa; 3 sons: Lance Minear of Richmond, Virginia, Hal Minear of Mason City, Iowa, Mark Minear of Carlisle, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Peck; 2 half sisters: Dora and Donna; and a brother, Howard.
