Howard Franklin Conard, 90, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, at Mackey United Methodist Church (228 V Avenue, Story City). Burial of cremated remains will be later at Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. Howard was born August 2, 1928, in Warren County, Iowa the son of Oscar O. and Bertha (Schuler) Conard. He served in the Korean Conflict, as military police from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1952. On May 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Ahrens. Howard is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters: Mary E. and Suzann M.; grandchildren: Robin, Elainea, John, MaryBeth, Mike, Toni and Daniel; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; his sisters: Edna and Mary; along with many extended and adopted family. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Alice and Vera; his father and mother-in-law: Louis and Maude Ahrens; and two daughters in infancy: Catherine and Rebeca.
