Hubert M. Church, 83, of Nevada, Iowa, died Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.
Hubert was born February 18, 1923 in Judsonia, Arkansas, the son of Noah and Eva Ali (Childress) Church. He was united in marriage to Ellen Wagenfield on September 12, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Hubert served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and flew as co-pilot in a B-24. Hubert was graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in civil engineering. Hubert worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in road design for 18 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Ankeny Cornerstone Baptist Church, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Iowa Engineering Society. Hubert was an avid reader who enjoyed economics, gardening, and his grandchildren.
Hubert is survived by his wife, Ellen of Nevada, IA; 2 sons: David Church and Donald Church, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 2 daughters: Margaret Oard of Saucier, Mississippi, Martha Church of Nevada, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; a brother: Ralph E. Church of Liberty, Missouri; and a sister, Clytice Church Duzan of Lowry City, Missouri.
His parents; a granddaughter; and a brother-in-law preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday at the Ankeny Cornerstone Baptist Church. Burial with Military Honors will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at the St. Joseph Memorial Park in St. Joseph, Missouri.
