AMES - J. Marvin Skadberg, 79, of Ames, Iowa, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Marvin was born December 6, 1927 at Carrington, North Dakota, the son of John and Mamie (Stokes) Skadberg. He was united in marriage to Marvel Neil February 9, 1951 in Carrington, ND. Marvel preceded Marvin in death August 21, 2004. Marvin served in the Air Force. He was an Extension Economist with special interest in the Cattle and Hog futures markets and retired in the mid 1980's. Marvin was a member of the Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Ames, Kiwanis and the Epsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity of Economists. He enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing, mall walking and traveling. Marvin is survived by a daughter: Kari Skadberg of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 sons: Mark Skadberg of Ames, IA, Andrew Skadberg of Bryan, TX; 3 grandchildren: Devon Skadberg, Joshua Skadberg, Serena Skadberg; 2 brothers: Kermit Skadberg of Gold Canyon, AZ, Jimmie Skadberg of Cathay, ND; 3 sisters: Sonja Shannon of Rapid City, SD, Arlys Harman of Carrington, ND, Judy Semmens of Mayville, ND; and a sister-in-law: Harriet and Gerald Pierson of Fargo, ND. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and 2 brothers: Jerold and Stanley. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Ames. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa State Foundation in memory of Marvin and Marvel Skadberg, the Senior Center of Ames, or to the Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Ames Foundation. The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory of Nevada is handling arrangements.
