James "Craig" Stratton, 68 of Collins, died Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Craig was born February 17, 1955, in Nevada, Iowa the son of Ronald L. and Margaret A. (Maxwell) Stratton. He graduated from Collins High School in 1973 and attended DMACC for two years, earning his welding certificate. Craig then went to work for John Deere in Ankeny as an experimental welder and retired after 34 years. In retirement, he farmed and raised cattle and sheep.

Craig lived by the Bible and loved to study God's word. He attended Ashton Chapel near Mingo, where he led bible studies, taught Sunday school, and served on the board for many years. He loved listening to and singing the old hymns. Craig went on numerous mission trips overseas and supported a home for children in India.

Craig is survived by his parents, Ronald and Margaret of Collins; his brothers, Dennis (Nancy) Stratton of Collins, Ronald "Wayne" (Eva) Stratton of Davenport and his sister Karen Stratton of Collins; his sister in law Dian Stratton of Collins, eight nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Neal "Keith" Stratton.

A visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Ashton Chapel (8887 W 122nd Street) near Mingo. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.

Memorials may be made to Ashton Chapel or Ashton Sunday School in memory of Craig.
