CAMBRIDGE _ James E. Sampson, 80, of Cambridge died Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Boone County Hospital. James was born August 27, 1924 in Nevada, Iowa the son of Sam and Sadie (Helland) Sampson. He was united in marriage to Eva Mae "Baby Doll" Gardner March 19, 1950 in Ames, Iowa. James served in the 254th Army Infantry, 63rd Division, during World War II in Europe. He retired from the National Animal Disease Lab in 1987. James was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church of Cambridge, the Iowa Barbed Wire Association and Midwest Tool Collectors. He is survived by his wife, Eva Mae "Baby Doll" Sampson of Cambridge, Iowa; 3 sons: Sid (Lori) Sampson of North Saint Paul, Minnesota, Doug (Terry) Sampson of Des Moines, Iowa; Jeff Sampson of Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota; a daughter: Laura (Craig) Aust of Cambridge, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; a brother, Jesse Sampson of Riverside, California; and a sister, Marie Miller of Oraville, California. James was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Shurdan; and 4 sisters: Ora, Joyce, Arlotte and Edna. Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Thursday at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge with Pastor Marcia Kisner officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the Memorial Service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Heritage Museum and to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
