Janet Christine Steinmetz, 64 of Johnston, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at MercyOne in Des Moines. Janet was born February 27, 1956, in Fort Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Gordon and Marjorie (Murry) Stiles. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1974 and Iowa Central Community College as a Registered Nurse. Jan worked for Central Iowa VA in the medical review department. She had attended Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a member of "Knitting Next Door". In her free time, Jan enjoyed knitting and crocheting and spending time with her rescued golden retrievers. Jan is survived by her two Golden Retrievers, Winston and Misty, her dear friends Deb and Paul Malsom of Nevada and their daughter, Heather (Kori) Moore of Marshalltown, Madonna (Dale) Opdahl, Villages, Florida and Mary (Tom) Curley of Marshalltown. She had a special place in her heart for her dear friends "The SilverBellles", her Knitting Friends and all the Mercy and VA Nurses. Jan attended many family dinners with the Malsom family and celebrated all major holidays with them, they were her "family." Jan had many friends that she would go on knitting retreats with and was always taking on new projects, such as knitting newborn baby hats, for donations to hospitals, making baby blankets for newborn babies of friends, and dog blankets. Jan had a giving heart and was loved by all. She was preceded in death by her parents.
