Janet Mae Thorson, 91 of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Windsor Manor in Nevada, Iowa.

Janet was born on May 1, 1935, to Marion and Virginia Thompson in Tacoma, Washington. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington in 1953.

Janet married the love of her life, Roger W. Thorson, on February 10, 1957, in McIntire, Iowa. They lived a full life in Nevada and Cambridge. Janet loved and cherished her children and grandchildren. She wore many hats through the years. She was very active in her church, Nazareth Lutheran, was a scout and 4-H leader, beloved daycare provider, librarian at the Cambridge Public Library for over 40 years and was in charge of the food pantry in Cambridge which was very important to her. She loved serving others.

Janet is survived by her children: Lorene (Mike) Geiger of New Hartford, John (Debbie) of Prole, Jeffrey (Linda) Thorson of Ames and Scott (Rita) Thorson of Kelley; her grandchildren: Linda (Jeffrey) Schott, Paul (Victoria) Geiger, Kenny Thorson (Anna Keller), Melissa (Roger) Mann, Curtis Mabbitt, Brad Mabbitt, Wyatt Thorson, Jamie Larson and Nick Larson (Kara); great-grandchildren: Rueben, Magnus, Courtney, Alexis, Jordy, Brison, Hunter, Garrett, Eleanor and Genevieve; her sisters: Carole Hunt, Sandra Clatt, Donna Cook, Cathy (Bill) Fjelland and sister-in-law Debra Thompson. Also, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Roger, her parents, a brother, Myron Thompson, a sister, Elaine Helgleland, brothers-in-law, Duane Cook, Larry Clatt, Gilbert Helgeland, Terry Hunt and a great-grandson, Wilson Schott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Food Pantry or the Iowa Food Bank.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, in Nevada. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, 517 Vine Street, in Cambridge with Pastor Marcia Kisner officiating. Interment will follow the service at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge.
