Jay Grismore "Jr." II, 65 of Nevada, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at his home in Nevada.

Jr. was born February 8, 1958, in Centerville, Iowa the son of Jay Jr. and Patricia Ann (McCarty) Grismore. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1976 and was united in marriage to Cynthia Louise Burr in Omaha, Nebraska. Jr. worked in road construction with his father and for Des Moines Construction Parts as a diesel mechanic. He then went to work for Story County Secondary Roads, retiring as a head mechanic.

Jr.'s favorite part of life was being "Papa" to his grandchildren, spending time with them at sporting events, working on hotrods, and FFA tractors. You could always find him working on old vehicles, truck and tractor pulling or sleeping in his recliner at his shop.

Jr. is survived by his wife, Cindy of Nevada; his children, Jay (Amanda) Grismore and Melissa (Seth) Upchurch; his grandchildren: Rylee, Ross and Charlie Upchurch and Carter, Grant and Monroe Grismore; his siblings, Belinda (Randy) Jay, Mary Rupe and Pam (Rick) North; his step-father, Mark Larson; his step-mother, Marge Grismore and children, Frank and Mary Fayer, Doug Pierce, Laura and Richard Devrick.; his in-laws, Grace (Galen) Thies, John (Kathy) Burr, Barb (Tom) Coleman and Pamela Grismore; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Nelson Grismore; his sister, Kimberly Anne Grismore; his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Belle Burr; and his brother-in-law, Charles Burr.

A visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2023, also at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada. Following the burial, everyone is invited to join the family at Christy Hall in Nevada for a reception.
