Ilah "Jean" Thompson, 85 of Nevada, died Friday, December 4, 2020, at her home in Nevada. Jean was born February 6, 1935, in Sherman Township in Putman County, Missouri, the daughter of Harley Howard and Roxie Mae (Lemasters) Mayfield. She was a part of the class of 1953 in Nevada and was united in marriage to Robert J. Thompson on February 6, 1953. Jean worked for Iowa State University as a custodian retiring with more than 20 years of service in 1997. Jean was a very active member of Nevada First Assembly of God Church (Living Water Church), where she taught Sunday school and youth groups for many years. Her faith in God was especially important to her. Jean was a foster grandparent for Nevada Elementary and Headstart Program for many years. She enjoyed sewing and baking. She came from a very musical family and would often be heard playing "Mansion Over the Hilltop" on piano and playing guitar. Jean is survived by her children: Judith (Jim) Olson of Story City, Robert "Joel" Thompson (fiancée Mary) and Fawyne (Darren) Moe of Nevada; her grandchildren: Rebecca (Dan) Graff, Roxanne (Jeff) Pieters, Wendy Thompson, Noah (Erica) Reyman, Vickey Thompson, Beth (Rantz) Braggs and Adam Moe; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Cake of Des Moines; her step-grandchildren, Angie Osheim and Jolene (Steve) Myers; and her step-great-grandchildren, Abigail, Allison, Adam, Bridget and Alex. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters: Beaulah Bartmess, Wanda Klein, Crystal Barton, Mildred Ilean Dorsey, and Shirley Hall; her brothers, Russell, and Raymond Mayfield. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 12, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
