Jerry Eugene Beard 89 of Des Moines, formerly of Maxwell, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at his home in Des Moines.

Jerry was born August 26, 1935, in Maxwell, IA, the son of Eugene Paul and Mary Frances (Poorbaugh) Beard. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1953 and attended Iowa State University. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army from 1955-1957. In 1956, Jerry married Jeanette Moody, and three children were born to that union, Randi Gene, Sandi Jo and Ronni Lee. The couple divorced in 1976. Jerry worked for Gibson-Homans, Weyerhaeuser and Compaq. In 2008 he met Judy Love, and he spent the rest of his life with her. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed woodworking and playing golf.

Jerry is survived by his fiancé Judy Love; his daughter Sandi Boggs; his son Ronni Beard; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Randi and his sister Kay Ammerman.

Jerry's memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (422 First Street) in Maxwell. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell.
