JoAnn Schmidt, 68, of Nevada, died Friday, November 30, 2012 at her home in Nevada. JoAnn was born October 15, 1944 in Nevada, Iowa, the daughter of William Lewis and Elma Ruth (Shattack) Coate. She attended and graduated from Nevada High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Carl Schmidt on February 13, 1979 at Nevada, Iowa. JoAnn was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, various crafts and going to Meskwaki Casino. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Carl, of Nevada; five children: Ann Lunsford Janes of Radcliffe, Iowa. Billie Jo Lunsford Camp of Wichita, Kansas, Roger Lunsford of Nevada, Iowa, James L. (Heather) Aldrich of Nevada, Iowa, Lisa Ann Schmidt of Altoona, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Missy Lunsford, Ryan Lunsford, Ashley Canon, Dylan Janes, Shanea Janes, Alexis Hill, Laynee Hill, Logan Hill; five great-grandchildren: Jaren, Clark, Banan, Serina, Leon; and a sister: Judith Baker of Jacksonville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson: Scott Oberhokamp; and a brother: Donald Coate. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial will be in the Rhodes Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM Monday at the Bacon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the JoAnn Schmidt Memorial Fund.
