Jodie Sue
Hunt
October 25, 1960 – December 17, 2022
Jodie Sue Hunt, 62, of Nevada, Iowa passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, in her home.
Jodie was born October 25, 1960, in Nevada, Iowa to Paul and Midge Stone. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1979 and attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Family Environment.
On August 27, 1983, Jodie married Sterling Hunt at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada. She worked at Donnelley Marketing in their Database department from 1983 to 1988. Her first son, Matthew, was born 1988, and her second son, Aaron, in 1992. She worked in the Nevada High School cafeteria from 2013 through 2019.
Jodie enjoyed family and church activities. After her children were born, she stayed home to raise them and later volunteered at Central Elementary School, where she was awarded the Friend of Education award in 2005. She was a member of the Presbyterian church in Nevada and later joined the First United Methodist Church. She loved working with youth groups through church lock-ins, the puppet ministry, and Vacation Bible School, sharing her strong faith and love for Jesus. Jodie enjoyed traveling to Door County, Wisconsin with her family where she liked to do wine tastings, eat at local restaurants, including The Cookery and a traditional Fish Boil, watch performances under the stars, and view the sunsets on the water.
Jodie also loved music and games. She listened to music any chance she had and sang in choirs and played the flute. A devoted member of the Music Parents through the Nevada Community School district, she worked tirelessly to ensure all students could access music. With her family, Jodie played many games of dominoes, never taking it easy on anyone and baffling everyone of how often she could win and dominate the game.
In 2019, Jodie was diagnosed with ALS. Throughout her disease, she remained strong in her faith, committed to her family, and full of smiles and love. After her diagnosis, she traveled to Hawaii with Sterling, something she had wanted to do all her life. And in March of 2022, Jodie became a grandmother to Aila.
Jodie is survived by her husband, Sterling Hunt, of Nevada; two sons: Matthew Hunt of Nevada and Aaron (Sarah) Hunt of Waukee; one granddaughter: Aila Hunt of Waukee; one brother: Kevin (Sue) Stone of Big Lake, MN; three sisters: Diana (Galen) Lough of Nevada, Nancy (Bernie) Klug of Perrysburg, OH, and Julie Stone of Cedar Rapids and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Midge Stone.
