John David Beals, 58, of Nevada, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
John was born December 2, 1965, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Larry James and Donna Rhea (Brooke) Beals. He grew up on the family farm in rural Jasper County with his two brothers and graduated from Mingo High School in 1984. John attended DMACC, graduating in 1986 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. On August 8, 1992, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Mittman at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.
John serviced office equipment for several years before opening Clock Works in Nevada, Iowa, in 2004, which was open for nearly 20 years. He enjoyed hiking, traveling, tinkering on his Edsels, and model railroading. John was a devoted member of the Nevada First United Methodist Church, and an active member of the Nevada Lions Club and the Iowa Edsel Club. From March of 2020 until January of 2024, John assisted at Nevada Food at First nearly every Monday and Thursday. He also served on several other community organizations over the years. He was especially proud of his children and the adults they had become.
John is survived by his wife, Barb of Nevada; his children, Cody (Cassidy) Beals of Ames and Kelly (Graysen) Hunter of Ames; his mother, Donna Beals of Collins; his brother, Gene (Sandie) Beals of Collins; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob (Barb) Mittman of Nevada, Linda (Wes) Demmon of Valparaiso, IN and John (Lori) Mittman of York, NE; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Beals, and his brother, James "Jim" Beals.
The visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A celebration of John's life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Nevada First United Methodist Church (1036 7th Street) in Nevada with Pastor Deb Copple officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada First United Methodist Church, Nevada Lions Club or the Israel Family Hospice House.
