John Michael 'Mick' McGuire, 75, of Colo, went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2022, at Stratford Care Center, following a long illness.
Mick was the 3rd of nine children born to Gerald and Sophie Ann McGuire of Wisner, Nebraska. He graduated in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and was in management at two large confinement cattle operations before working as a commodity broker for several brokerage firms. In 1975, he married Brenda Kimberley and settled in Lincoln, Nebraska, where their two children, Sean and Annie, were born. They moved to Colo, Iowa, in 1994.
Mick loved horses and, as a young man, assisted with his cousin's rodeo act, even learning how to Roman ride. He was a quiet family man with hilarious one-liners that surprised a laugh from many a listener. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Colo Lions' Club and was a supporter of the Story County 4-H horse program.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carol Ann Hehner and Mary Kay Uraga, and brother-in-law, Bill Simon.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda, their children, Sean (Diane) McGuire and Annie (Shane) Darby. Also, four brothers: Rob, Jeff, Brad (Marie) and Mark (Kaili) McGuire; two sisters, Patricia (John) Shively and Sally Simon; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2022, with a scripture service at 7 p.m. at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada.
