Joseph John Hejkal, 64 of Ames, formerly of Nevada, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

Joe was born January 19, 1959, in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Robert Earl Hejkal Sr. and Leta Ann Bennett. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1978 and earned his AA from Kirkwood Community College in Animal Husbandry. Joe worked several years for Donnelly Marketing in Nevada. He enjoyed horses, fishing and the Minnesota Vikings. Joe was an avid fan and season ticket holder of Iowa State Women's Basketball for many years.

Joe is survived by his brother, Robert (Lois) Hejkal, Jr of Yuma, AZ.; his sisters, Holly Goodall of Ames, Tina (James) Morris of Weirsdale, FL and Randy (Clark) Melohn of Ankeny; his nieces and nephews: Susanne (Michael) Lee, Daniel (Sue) Hejkal, Dirk (Jennifer) Hejkal, Kathy Melohn, Jessica Chambers (Doug), Scott (Chrissy) Melohn, Tonya (Sarah) Goodall, Bryan Goodall and Sean (Dana) Litchfield; his cousin, David (Lorene) Wilson; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Ed Goodall and his sister-in-law, Gitta Hejkal.

A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bliss Cancer Center in memory of Joe.
