Obituary

Joshua Aaron Harms passed from this world on 4/12/2025 after a 4-month illness. Josh was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine (Weigel) Harms.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (1110 11th Street) in Nevada with Father Richmond Dzekoe officiating. Family will greet friends at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery near Gilbert.

Josh was born on 10/5/1981, grew up and spent most of his life in Nevada. He attended Nevada High School and was a member of the wrestling team - winning the most improved wrestler (JV) award the year he graduated. Growing up, he was active in Scouting achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in the local troop.

After high school, Josh attended DMACC earning an associate degree as a paralegal. He then attended ISU earning a bachelor's degree in History and Classical Studies.

Josh's academic interests in life revolved around the law and history, particularly, Roman civilization. He was well read in Roman philosophy, but had a particular dislike of Cicero. One sure way of starting an argument with him was to bring Cicero in any conversation. Josh also had a fascination with Laura Ingalls Wilder and was able to visit many historical sites associated with her.

Josh's favorite pastimes included reading, video gaming, assembling LEGOs, Pokeman, drinking Coke and traveling with family. One trip included a week long wagon train ride through Story County. Besides family vacations, Josh enjoyed weekend and day trips with his mother to visit local / nearby historical locations.

Josh was a high functioning autistic He struggled with understanding the world, his place in it and relationships with others. Most all who took the time and effort to "know" Josh, loved him for his honesty, innocence, and off kilter personality. He loved his family deeply and was loved in return.

In life, he overcame many barriers and hurdles. Over the years he was employed at ISU, Fareway (Nevada) and McFarland Clinic. Josh strove to be as independent as he possibly could be. Despite his disability, independence and not being a burden to his family was very important to him. For all his efforts and accomplishments, the family is extremely proud of him.

Josh is survived by his father, Michael; sisters Jessica Harms, Callie Frohwein; brothers-in-law Ari Richelson (Jessica), Dennis Frohwein (Callie); nieces Anna Jo and Alissa Richelson (Jessica), Ryley and Harper Frohwein (Callie).
