Karol Atwood, 89, of Collins, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Karol was born May 1, 1925, in Collins to William and Mable (Tribby) Robinson. She graduated from Collins High School and the American Institute of Business (AIB). She worked as a stenographer in Des Moines until she was united in marriage to William Atwood on December 15, 1946, in Collins. She was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. Karol enjoyed playing the piano, card club, bird watching, flowers, ceramics, and genealogy. She also enjoyed attending the State and National Rural Letter Carriers Conventions and spending winters in Arizona. Karol loved the time she got to spend with her family and friends especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Karol is survived by her daughter, Chris (Marvin) Huntrods of Collins; her son, Doug (Beth) Atwood of Collins; her grandchildren, Joel (Tara) Huntrods, Jill (Mark) Dell, Clint (Abby) Huntrods, Shelley (Darin) Wing, and Justin (Spenser) Atwood; her great-grandchildren, Luke, Blake and Jace Huntrods, Jacob and Logan Dell, Blair Atwood and Baby Wing (on the way); her sisters-in-law, Carol Head and Linda Lein; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Bill (Myrtha) Robinson and Berle (Hope) Robinson. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 6 at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 7 also at the funeral home with burial to follow at Collins Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.
