Obituary

Kathleen "Kay" (Sesker) Coughenour, 78, of Maxwell passed away on Wednesday February 3, 2021, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Kay was born on June 16, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa to Tolferd and Alma (Adams) Sesker. She graduated from Maxwell High School with the Class of 1960. She was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist Church, Maxwell Women's Club, Thursday Coffee Club & The Order of the Eastern Star. Kay was also a founding member of the original Maxwell Mother's Club and served on the board of the Maxwell Area Community Center. Kay was a stay-at-home mom when her kids were little and helped Bill on their farm. She then worked for a local flower shop and had the opportunity to purchase that business. Kay was the owner/operator of Kay's Country Floral on Main Street in Maxwell for many years. She loved flowers, birds and spending time in her yard. She loved to decorate inside and out. Kay was happiest when having big family dinners and always made more than enough so she could send home "leftovers" with everyone. Kay and Bill took many trips in their camper and also enjoyed spending winters in Donna, Texas where they made many friends. Kay is survived by her four sons: Mark (Kristi), Matthew (Mary), Martin (Laurie), Mitchell (Misty) all of Maxwell; nine grandchildren: T.J. (Allison) Coughenour, Amanda (Trevor) Sharp, Megan (Zach) Pelz, Trever, Trent, Kelsie, Emily, Jordan (Stephanie) and Blake Coughenour; great-granddaughter, Kaylee; her sister, Diane (Lee) Andeway of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Marilyn Sesker of Dexter; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
