Obituary

NEVADA - Kay R. Gaard, 63, of Nevada, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. He was born April 7, 1941 near Hubbard, Iowa the son of Homer and Hazel (Christian) Gaard. He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1959. Kay was united in marriage to Floramae Post on February 9, 1963 in Vermillion, South Dakota. Kay had worked as a custodian at the Story County Courthouse and Administration Building until retiring in March 2004. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nevada, served on the Lincoln Highway Days Committee and was a former Nevada Volunteer Fireman. Kay enjoyed collecting toy tractors, traveling, woodworking, latch-hooking and putting puzzles together. He is survived by his wife: Floramae Gaard of Nevada; a son and daughter-in-law: Jim and Debi Gaard of Diboll, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law: Kate and Steve Metzger of Grand Island, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren: Alek, Braydon, Jordan Kay, Kaleigh; a brother: Hubert Gaard of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and a sister: K. Romaine Ritland of Story City, Iowa. Kay's parents, 2 nephews and a brother in law preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Nevada. Visitation will be 7:00 - 8:30 pm Friday at the Bacon Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church building fund.
