Kenneth Eugene Allen, 76, of Maxwell, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on August 20, 1948, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Colleen (LaGrange) Allen. Ken led a life marked by hard work and commitment to his family and career.
Ken graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1967, earned an Associate of Arts degree from DMACC, and later completed his bachelor's degree at Upper Iowa University. On January 7, 1978, he married Mae Marie Alder in Des Moines, beginning a partnership that lasted over four decades.
Ken worked as a plumber with the Local #33 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and later became an Insulation Project Manager. As a Certified Energy Manager, he contributed to Honeywell and Mid-American Energy before founding his own company, KMA Management, LLC.
Ken was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Masonic Consistory, and the Shriners. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering – his hands were always busy. Ken had a special place in his heart for his cats, Charlie Brown, Tuffy, Scooter, Riddler, Boots, and his grandkitty Kovu which he called Animal and his beloved dog Shadow.
He is survived by his wife, Mae, of Maxwell; his children, Nicholas (Kristal) Allen of Creston and Theresa Allen of Maxwell; his grandchildren, Rian McNear and Erik and Kylin Allen; and his bonus grandchildren, Haley Wall, Reagan Wall, and Dominic McNear. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Floyd Allen.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 422 First Street, Maxwell. Inurnment will follow at Peoria Cemetery in rural Maxwell.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.
