Larry Barker, 85 of Nevada, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home near Nevada.

Larry was born April 26, 1938, at the family farm near Nevada to Leslie and Sylvia (Hemstock) Barker. He graduated from Shipley High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Alma Onieta Rupe on November 24, 1957, at their home. Larry worked 32 years for John Deere in Ankeny as a machinist.

Larry was a member of the Moose Lodge in Ames. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Larry spent his life on the farm and loved caring for the land.

Larry is survived by his children, Rick Barker (Kim Bainter) of Nevada, Kevin (Kim) Barker of Nevada and Troy (Marlys) Barker of Nevada; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Martha (Bob) Collins of Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma in 2021; his sisters, Jeanette Border and Lois Thorton; and his brothers, Howard, Kenny, and Loren.

A memorial service honoring the lives of both Larry and Alma will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.  The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed on Larry's tribute wall at www.rasmussonfh.com.
