Obituary

Born in the roaring twenties on December 1st, 1924 in Kansas, Leah Anoka (Elliott) Stratton lived much of her life on family farms south of Collins. She passed away on April 25th, 2018 at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, IA. She is preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Stratton, parents Alvin Guy Elliott and Harriet Roena (Fox) Elliott, a brother, Ober Elliott, and sisters Guylia Partridge and Nelda Kriegel. Known as Anoka to her family and friends, she enjoyed ballroom dancing at Lake Robbins and Prairie Meadows, as well as tap dancing at various events. While she never had formal training, she learned to tap dance from the radio as a child. Anoka married Jack Stratton on November 6th, 1946. Jack was postmaster in Collins while Anoka ran a beauty shop with her sister, Nelda. They enjoyed dancing and traveling in their retirement years, in addition to spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Kevan Stratton of Collins, daughter Kyla Stratton of Collins, a granddaughter, Kara Manley of Prairie City, and two great-grandchildren, Chase and Jillian. A celebration of life service will be held on July 25th, 2018. Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements. www.rasmussonfh.com
