Leland "Lee" Albert Scheid, 94 of Nevada, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024, at State Center Nursing and Rehab in State Center, IA.
Lee was born at home on November 21, 1929, in rural Marshall County near Green Mountain, Iowa to Joseph and Gladys (Hall) Scheid. Following his high school graduation from Toledo High School in 1948, he was drafted in to the United States Marines Corp, serving in Korea from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. Lee was united in marriage to Monna Jean Fincham on August 22, 1954, at the Colo EUB Church. Together they lived outside Nevada where Lee 's life centered around farming.
Lee was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and belonged to the William F. Ball Legion Post #48 both of Nevada. He enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking and gardening, but his real passion was spending time with his family, especially the babies and toddlers. He was a man with a big heart who was always ready to help others. His work ethic and honesty were second to none. These are values he strived to instill in those around him. His family will especially miss his subtle humor and quick smile.
Lee is survived by his wife of 70 years, Monna of Nevada; his children Carl "Buck" (Debbie) Scheid of Gilmer, TX, Kenneth (Valorie) Scheid of Gilmer, TX, Steven (Carol) Scheid of Nevada, IA and Jeana (Dennis) Mowery of Marshalltown, IA; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren with two on the way; four great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and his sister Mary Laird of Creston, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Leonard Scheid and William Scheid; his sister Ardis Hemping; and daughter-in-law Brenda Scheid.
Lee's body has been cremated and a service honoring his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nevada.
