Linda Diane Uthe, 72, of Nevada, died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Linda, daughter of Sylvester and Lila (Mortvedt) Uthe, was born May 15, 1945, in Ames, Iowa. She grew up on a farm south of Ames with her three sisters and one brother. A 1963 graduate of Ames High School; she earned a B.A. in English from Iowa State University in 1967. She later received her Master's degree in administration from Northwest Missouri State. Linda was the high school principal in the WACO School District in Wayland, Iowa and the Southern Cal School District in Lake City, Iowa. She retired from education in 2002. Linda was an avid reader who shared her love of the English language with many students over the years. After retirement, she enjoyed working part-time teaching classes at DMACC in central Iowa. Linda faced many health challenges in her life; yet she remained positive and had a strong will to live through these adversities. She was extremely determined to make the best of what she was dealt during her life. Family time with her nieces and nephew was important to her. Every holiday she made sure there was a new game to be played. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals especially cats and dogs. Linda couldn't walk through a garden center without buying more plants for her flower garden. She just needed to remember to plant them when she returned home. Linda is survived by her sisters Marlene Borkowski of Manning, Karen (Alan) Knaphus of McCallsburg; and brother Douglas (Sue) Uthe of Nevada; nieces Renee Uthe, Nevada, Kari (Rob) Deal and son Theo, Ames, Amy Borkowski, Ankeny, and nephew Ross Uthe, Nevada.
