Lois Nadine Altes, 87, of Nevada, Iowa, died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Story Medical Senior Care in Nevada. Services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 2nd at Collins Methodist Church in Collins. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, December 1st at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.
Lois was born September 17, 1922 at Collins, Iowa, the daughter of Fred Herbert and Verda Fay (Hinshaw) Kimberley. She graduated from Collins High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Ronald Edward Altes in Chillicothe, Missouri on September 14, 1940. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1993. She was a homemaker and farm wife.
She was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church, Tuesday Bridge Club, Garden Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, spoiling the grandchildren, sporting events, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include her son: Frederick (Rayma) Altes of Joplin, Missouri; a daughter: Joan Enfield of Collins, Iowa; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister: Mildred Fertig of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters: Carol Long and Barbara Carroll and a great grandson: Conner Handy.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
