Lois Catherine Mens, 87, of Nevada, IA, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Celebration of Lois's life will be Sunday, August 18th from 4-6pm at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada, IA.

Lois was born March 25, 1937, in Fairmont, MN. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1955. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Burnett (Bernie) Mens. Lois and Bernie were married September 4, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont, MN.

Lois was a stay-at-home mom when the boys were little. She went to work later at Story County Courthouse, Nevada National Bank and then to Iowa State University.

Lois is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bernie Mens, Nevada, IA. Sons: Paul (Kathy) Mens, Richard (Lisa) Mens, and David (Lisa) Mens. Grandkids: Karla (Ryan) McCollom, Kyle (Megan) Mens, Victoria Mens, Christina (Cole) Sheets, Alexandra (Dennison) Iacomini, Knowlton Mens, and Austin Mens. Great Grandkids: Quin, Bailee, Ryker, Samuel, Lyla, Cooper and Delainey. Her sister, Helen Nelson, of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarance and Laura Will Backstrom. Brother, Charles (Knute) Backstrom and Floyd Backstrom.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church Youth Program in Lois's honor.
