Lorraine Marion
Lawrie
December 16, 1925 – November 23, 2024
Lorraine Marion (Fryckman) Lawrie, 98 of Nevada, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Lorraine was born December 16, 1925, in Chisholm, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar Emmanuel and Adell Adeline (Tischer) Fryckman. Bim, as she was fondly nicknamed, was the youngest of the nine Fryckman children. After graduating from Chisholm High School in 1941, she joined the Cadet Nursing Corps and earned her RN from St. Lukes School of Nursing in Duluth, Minnesota. In 1968, Lorraine was united in marriage to Bruce Wallace Lawrie, and they made their home in Jefferson, Iowa.
Dedicated to public service, Lorraine spent her life caring for others throughout her nursing career. For over six decades as a nurse, she worked in every healthcare setting imaginable, from the emergency room to the public health department and even working in obstetrics. For many years, Lorraine's career was focused in geriatric care, where her compassion and wisdom brought solace and balance to her residents, their loved ones and her co-workers. Lorraine set the bar high and challenged those around her to reach for their greatest potential, seeing individual strengths not weaknesses, encouraging others to believe in themselves and their power to succeed. Thousands were touched by Lorraine's care and love, and her legacy is to be celebrated.
Lorraine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson and the Signet Chapter of the Eastern Star in Carroll. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, word searches, reading, playing solitaire, and tending to her plants, but above all, spending time with her three grandchildren.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter Leanne (Scott) Harter of Nevada, and her grandchildren Amanda, Meredith and Rhett Harter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993; five brothers and 3 sisters, and many other family members and friends with whom she cherished their relationships.
Graveside services for both Lorraine and her late husband Bruce will be held in the springtime at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to family for a scholarship to be established in Lorraine's name.
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.rasmussonfh.com.
