Obituary

MAXWELL- Lyle Edwin Mansfield, 82, of Maxwell, passed away at home from congestive heart failure and complications on March 15, 2007. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Maxwell United Methodist Church. Burial will at 3:00 PM at the Manilla Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa. Visitation will be 7:00 - 8:30 PM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to the Lyle E. Mansfield Memorial Fund, which will be used for several projects. Lyle was born March 27, 1924 in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Charles and Helen (Miller) Mansfield. Lyle went to school in Herndon and at an early age started working on the CMSLP&C Railroad, which was his lifetime occupation. Lyle had worked on a signal crew, retiring in the mid 1980s. Lyle was drafted into the Army and served with the 601 Artillery Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received an honorable discharge with many bronze service honors. On January 3, 1946, he continued work on the railroad for 44 years. On August 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Eunice M. Ahrenholtz at Manilla, Iowa. They were blessed with 2 sons and a daughter. They moved several times, living at Neola, Manilla, Sioux City and Maxwell. Lyle enjoyed working on small electrical projects and tinkering in the garage with the boys. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing in the summertime and mowing lawns for people. He cared for the Methodist Church lawn for over 25 years. Lyle is survived by his wife, Eunice of 56 years; his children: Craig (Betty) Mansfield of Maxwell, Cheryl (Jerry) Bassett of Ovedio, Florida, Keith Mansfield of Maxwell; 2 grandchildren: Royal and Taylor; 3 step-grandchildren: Tori, Tracie and Tammie; 6 step-great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Lincoln (Geri) Mansfield of Kansas City, MO, Dwaine (Shelia) Mansfield of Perry, IA; 3 sisters: Uneta (Joe) Dowd of Perry, IA, Lois (Cliff) Heisler of Perry, IA, Zada (Charles) Springer of Clear Lake, IA; and a sister-in-law: Mae Mansfield of Perry, IA. Lyle was preceded in death his parents: 4 brothers: Royal, Quentin, Floyd, Dwight; 2 sisters: Dora Mansfield and Darlene Mansfield; step-father, Henry Meyer; his in laws: Art and Myrtle Ahrenholtz, Doris and Cliff Klein, Donald and Juanita Ahrenholtz and Arthur Meyer. Lyle will be deeply missed by his wife and children, his many friends and family. The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
