Lynn Duane Harris, 96 of Nevada, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Lynn was born April 24, 1927, in Pine River, Minnesota, the son of James Sinclair Harris and Grace Bobenhouse. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1944 then enlisted in the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge in 1947. On March 3, 1967, Lynn was united in marriage to Ethel Norma (Lemons) Hill in Nevada. They were married 52 years before she died April 10, 2019. He worked 31 years as a rural road designer for the Iowa DOT.
Lynn was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and the William F. Ball Legion Post #48 in Nevada. He had also been a member of the Rifle and Pistol Club and the Nevada Lions. Lynn enjoyed golfing, woodworking, hunting, and spending time at their cabin in Wisconsin fishing. He loved taking the grandchildren to the cabin fishing as long as it was only one at a time.
Lynn is survived by his children, Patricia (David) Fischer of Des Moines, Gary (Phyllis) Hill of The Villages, FL and Janice Hill of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Timothy (Donna) Kinnan, Brian (Joni) Kinnan, Deb (Justin) Jansen, Becky (John) Thomton, Alana Bothun-Hill, Erik (Chelsea) Bothun and Adam (Jennifer) Bothun-Hill; his great-grandchildren, Bryson, Paige, Summer, Zachary, Emilia, Alyssa and Dane. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel; his brothers, Vincent and Lawrence Harris; his niece, Rosie Carpenter; and his nephew, Ron Carpenter.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada with Pastor Kathleen Lotz officiating. Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in memory of Lynn.
