Marcia Ann Sandvold, born in Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away at the age of 68 in Story County, Iowa on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. She was born on August 11, 1953, the fourth and youngest child of Larue and Weidhas August Lange.
Directly after graduating from Ottumwa High School, she attended Iowa State University where she acquired B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Accounting, a CPA designation, and a M.S. degree in Business. From a very young age, Marcia knew that teaching would be her future. She spent time as a high school math teacher in Tipton, Iowa, as an instructor in the ISU mathematics department, and eventually as a full-time accounting instructor at DMACC in 2000. Her favorite part of each day was teaching her students, who were especially appreciative of her kindness and genuine care for not only their education, but also their success outside of the classroom.
Marcia and Steven Juel Sandvold were married on January 14, 1990, in Ames, Iowa. They loved to travel and created numerous memories venturing across the country together. They settled in Ankeny, Iowa, where they raised two children, Michael Juel and Olivia Fei Sandvold, and built a home full of love, music, dancing, and laughter.
On an average summer day, you could find Marcia walking through a greenhouse looking for plants to add to her gardens, perusing the newest music at the local library, or taking her children on a road trip to the Blue Bunny ice cream factory, the Grant Wood house, or the Science Center of Iowa. Every lunch or dinner with her friends, family, or colleagues was an event she eagerly anticipated. Marcia deeply treasured all her personal relationships.
An active and creative individual, Marcia invested energy in calligraphy, sewing, antiquing, and biking with her friends. She was known by many for her fashionable style and wearing of bright colors. Her favorite holiday was Christmas; she adored spending the joyful season with her loved ones.
Marcia was, and will always be, loved by her family. She is survived by her husband, Steven, her siblings, Jeanne (Scott) Omvig, Paul (Cindy) Lange, and Karen (Jim) Westercamp, and her children, Michael, and Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents Larue and Weidhas. Marcia will be remembered for her infectious smile, heartfelt laugh, and for the kindness and care shown to all those who had the good fortune to know her.
