Marilyn Joann
Culp
December 20, 1941 – January 5, 2026
Marilyn Joann Culp, age 84, of Cambridge, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Mill Pond Senior Living in Ankeny.
Born on December 20, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, Marilyn was the daughter of Forrest and Stella (Pauscher) Moberg. She attended East High in Des Moines, graduating with the class of 1960.
On February 5, 1961, Marilyn was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Culp at Galilee Baptist Church in Des Moines. Together, they built a loving family and, in 1974, made Cambridge their home. Marilyn and Jerry shared nearly 65 years of devoted marriage, raising four children and welcoming the joys of grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their lives.
Marilyn dedicated her professional life to public service and education, working as the City Clerk in Cambridge and as a bookkeeper for the Ames Community School District, retiring in 2000.
Marilyn was known for her love of golf and tennis, and for her unwavering support of the Iowa State Cyclones and the Kansas City Royals. She and Jerry enjoyed traveling together, taking annual trips to Cabo San Lucas for 15 years and cherishing the tradition of visiting Okoboji each year. The couple were familiar faces at the Café in Ames, where they were regulars nearly every morning. Above all, Marilyn treasured time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Jerry; her children, Jerry (Laurie) Culp, Jeff Culp, Brian (Dee) Culp, and BJ (Jesica) Culp; her grandchildren, Ashley (Elizabeth) Culp, Kyle Culp, Erin (Jaryd) Eichinger, Emily (Taylor) Christensen, Spencer (Valerie) Culp, Jackson (Chelsie) Culp, Kaitlyn (Mason) Thomas, Kaylee Culp, Peyton Culp, Carson Culp, and Rylan Culp; ten great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Sharon Sparks and Carolyn Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service honoring Marilyn's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Faith Baptist Church, 401 Second Street in Cambridge, with Pastor Jacob Saylor officiating. Marilyn will be laid to rest privately at the Cambridge Cemetery following the service.
