Marion Ernest Nehring, 88 of Maxwell, died Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Story County Medical Center. Marion was born September 22, 1933, in Colo, Iowa the son of Ernest Nehring and Laura (Fricke) Nehring. He graduated from Colo High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. On July 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Brink at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. The couple moved to Maxwell where they farmed for many years. Marion enjoyed many interests and hobbies such as photography, genealogy, fishing, football, birdwatching and following steam engine trains. He especially enjoyed trying his luck at Prairie Meadows. Marion also had the opportunity to travel all 50 states with Mary Jane. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family and always enjoyed keeping up with all the grandkids activities.
Marion is survived by his wife, Mary Jane of Maxwell; his sons: Paul (Darla) Nehring of Riverbank, CA, Michael (Brenda) Nehring of Ankeny; his daughters: Nancy Nehring (Steve Winegarden) of Sunnyvale, CA, Joan (Clayton) McKeon of Holland, MI, Shirley (Jon) Miller of Bondurant, Beverly (Todd) Longnecker of Pineville, MO; his brother, Bruce Nehring of Alden; his sister, Minnie (George) Cramer of Alden; his grandchildren: Carrie (Stewart) Merrell, Scott Winegarden, Katie Winegarden, Kate (Mark) Wade, Elizabeth (Adam) Fesl, Brian McKeon, Sandy (Ted) Sanders, Dan (Laura) Miller, Jim (Ashley) Miller, Joe (Rachel) Miller, Nichole (Austyn) Cruse, Tara Nehring, Colt (Berlyn) Longnecker, Dakota Longnecker, Hannah (Brendan) Jones, Grant Nehring (Jodi Oakland), Lucas Nehring, Anthony Nehring and Lindsay Nehring; along with 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles Nehring; and his brother, Jerry Nehring.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (422 First Street) in Maxwell. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery in State Center. Following the graveside service, everyone is invited to the Maxwell Area Community Center in Maxwell for a luncheon.
