Mark
Harrington
June 15, 1960 – May 8, 2026
Greenwood Park - Jay Spence Shelter
1:00 - 2:00 pm
Mark Fabian Harrington, 65, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026, doing what he loved—dancing.
Mark was born June 15, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of John "Jack" Harrington Sr. and Norma Ruth (Carlson) Harrington.
Mark's work ethic started at a young age when he worked for the Asarch family at Ideal Printing. He went on to become a long-time employee of Drake University in grounds maintenance, spending much of his time at the President's residence. Most recently, Mark worked for Iowa Home Care, a job he embraced as he cared for the elderly. He also shared his compassion by volunteering with hospice.
Mark enjoyed being outdoors and took pride in yardwork. Mark also had a love of old cars and spending time with friends and their dance group known as "Keepin' it Country". This close-knit group of friends traveled around to several nursing homes and long-term care facilities in the Des Moines area and brought many smiles to the faces of the residents through dance.
Mark is survived by his brother, Kevin Harrington of Grimes; his sister, Molly Harrington (Hugh Dunne) of Ireland; his sister-in-law, Kellie Harrington of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Duke. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Norma, and by his brothers, Tim Harrington and Mike Harrington.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Greenwood Park, Jay Spence Shelter, 80 45th Street, Des Moines, IA 50312.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Home Care or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with arrangements for Mark. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.rasmussonfh.com.
