Mark Alan Hines, 68 of Des Moines, formerly of Nevada, died Sunday, January 2, 2022, surrounded by family at his home in Des Moines following a short illness.
Mark was born September 7, 1953, in Nevada, the son of Gerald Wayne and Frances Evelyn (Aylward) Hines. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1972 and started as a plumbing apprentice. Mark owned Hines Plumbing in Nevada and was a Master Plumber. He took a job with Drake University Facilities Department and later became an entrepreneur and teacher opening ABCT (Advanced Backflow Center Training) and later, with his brother Neal, launched ABL (Advance Backflow Laboratories).
Mark was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada and served on the Nevada City Council for two terms as well as serving as a Nevada firefighter. He was a member of the Iowa Golden Gloves Boxing Association, serving as a judge for many years in Iowa.
Mark loved his family and also had many passions in life including his Harley Davidson, motor cross racing, fishing, coffee and a warm wood burning fire and fellowship with friends.
Mark is survived by his sons, Luke Hines of Des Moines and Jacob (Christy) Hines of Loveland, CO; four grandchildren: Connor (son of Mason), Colton, Jayla and Theodore (children of Jacob and Christy); his sisters, Annette Forbes of Ames and Mary (Jan) Sherwood of Ames; sister—in—law, Kay Hines of Arizona, along with numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Candy.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mason and his brothers, Kent and Neal.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada with Fr. Rick Dagit officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
