Mary Jo Achey, age 88, formerly of Marion, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

Born January 4, 1938, in Nevada, Iowa, Mary Jo was the daughter of Darrell L. and Josephine (Wilson) Myers. She grew up in Nevada, graduating from Nevada High School and later attending beauty school which led to her career as a hairdresser in Marion, Iowa.

On July 19, 1977, Mary Jo married Ronald Achey in Marion, Iowa. Together, they shared years of love and companionship. Mary Jo was deeply committed to her faith and community, serving as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church in Springville, Iowa, and remaining actively involved with the Marion Legion Post #298 in Marion.

Mary Jo had a passion for reading and fishing, but above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will be remembered by her children, Kelly (Chuck) Nelson of Ames and Eric (Lisa) Johnston of Marion; her cherished grandchildren, Austin McCool (Keely), Ethan Johnston (Janelle), and Lydia (Griffen) Myers; her sister, Tina (Mike) Dahlke of Eldora; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ronald Achey; her brothers, Thomas, Kevin, and Jon Myers; and her sister, Kathy Erickson.

A funeral service honoring Mary Jo's life will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 16, 2026, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy in Nevada. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will take place at a later date determined by the family at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
