Mary Lou Borts, 85, of Northcrest Community in Ames, formerly of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the Heartwood House in Ames, Iowa. Mary Lou was born November 30, 1930, in Warren County, Iowa, the daughter of W. A. and Amy E. (Randolph) Crandall. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1947. On June 17, 1949, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Willard Borts in Indianola, Iowa. Willard preceded Mary Lou in death March 15, 1986. Mary Lou worked as Deputy Treasurer in Story County and as School Board Secretary for the Nevada Schools. Mary Lou enjoyed gardening, horses, and attending kids sporting events. Mary Lou is survived by her son, Murl (Anne) Borts of Nevada, Iowa; her daughter, Janet (Rod) Myers of Ames, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jeff Roeske, Doug Roeske and Curtis Borts; one great-grandchild, Ryan Roeske; and her sister, Ruth (Dick) Davitt of Indianola, Iowa; and Pat Borts of Ames, Iowa. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a brother, John Crandall. Private graveside services will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
