Obituary

Mary Cecilia Lunsford, age 81, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Story Medical Senior Care. Born on April 5, 1944, in Melbourne, Australia, Mary was the beloved daughter of Delbert Virgil and Lilian Mary (Bull) Johnson.

Mary's life was marked by faith, family, and compassion. On July 24, 1965, she married Terry Lunsford at the Rhodes United Methodist Church. Together, they raised three children: Jeff, Todd, and Heidi. Though the couple later parted ways, Mary's devotion to her family never waned.

A steadfast Christian, Mary's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She cherished time spent in prayer and fellowship, and her love for God was evident in her gentle spirit and caring nature. Mary was especially fond of her feline companions, always welcoming cats into her heart and home. She found joy in quiet moments reading and engaging in lively games of Scrabble with loved ones.

Mary's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her children, Jeff Lunsford, Todd Lunsford, and Heidi Lee; her grandchildren, Elexis Lunsford, Korri Ramsey, and Kaylee Rodguez; one great-granddaughter, Rhylie Ramsey; and her siblings, Heather Johnson, Tim Martin, and Tammy (Danny) Krock. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leo Edward Johnson and Delbert Virgil Johnson; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Lunsford.

Mary has been cremated. A graveside service will be held at Eden Cemetery in Rhodes, Iowa, around the date of her birthday in April 2026, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and legacy.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with Mary's final arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.rasmussonfh.com.

Mary's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
