Mary Jane
Wycoff
August 4, 1918 – May 4, 2023
Mary Jane Wycoff was born August 4, 1918, in Colo, Iowa, to parents James and Ethel Leora Quigley. She married her high school sweetheart, Herschel Emmett Wycoff, on February 14, 1938, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Nevada, Iowa.
She was a devoted church and community member. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and then the United Methodist Church after the two churches merged. She helped start the church's first food stand at the Story County 4-H Fair and was in charge of running it for many years. She loved to cook and bake (especially cookies and kringla) for her family. She and Herschel farmed for almost 30 years in the Nevada area. They had three children, Terry, Steve, and Rosemary. After Herschel passed away in 1966, Mary moved back to Nevada where she loved working and being around people. In fact, she worked until she was 92. She made many friends and had fond memories from working at the Nevada National Bank, the Computer Center, and the Community Bank. However, her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed very much.
She is survived by two of her three children: Terry (Dianne) Wycoff of Ames, and Rosemary (Rod) Houge of Ames; daughter-in-law Jeannine Wycoff of Onalaska, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren Chris (Michelle) Wycoff of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Stephanie (Todd) Volz of Elkhart, Marcie (Scott) Horn of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Joe (Jen) Wycoff of Allen, Texas, Eric (Kira) Houge of Tallahassee, Florida, Kelly (Danny) Binkowski of Ames, Iowa, and Emily Houge of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Steve, her grandson Greg Wycoff and her sister Margaret Bates.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Mary's name to Story Medical Senior Care.
