Obituary

Maxine M. Butterbaugh, 94, formerly of Daytonville, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 at Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at First Baptist Church in Wellman with inurnment of cremated remains in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Joetown, rural Kalona. Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Butterbaugh was born Feb. 12, 1921 in Coppock, Washington County, daughter of Charles and Sadie Nicola. She married Sherman Butterbaugh on Jan. 9, 1937. They gave birth to two daughters, Shirley and Ruth. The Butterbaughs made their home for many years in Daytonville. Following Sherman's death in December, 2002, Maxine moved to Marshalltown to be near close relatives. Preceding Maxine in death in addition to her husband were brother Gerald Nicola, who died at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in 1994, and two grandsons. Survivors include her daughters, Shirley (Mel) Pitzen, Marshalltown, and Ruth Hunt, Black Hawk, S.D.; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Wellman, and Hospice Compassus, 4506 Chadwick Rd., Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613.
