Melissa Marie Truitt, 49 of Nevada, died Monday, June 27, 2022, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Melissa was born July 16, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of David Allan and Cheryl Lynn (Randall) Coppess. On August 23, 2004, she was united in marriage to Jody Ray Truitt in Cedar Rapids. Melissa enjoyed playing Bingo and was excellent at Skip-Bo. She especially enjoyed being with her friends and family. Melissa is survived by her husband, Jody of Nevada; her mother, Cheryl Clinton of Warner Robins, GA; her daughter, Sara (Chris) Piatt; her brother, Josh Coppess; her grandchildren: Demarcus, Kaya and Carly Ruffin, Nahjanae and Nasir Piatt, Ashley McCann and Cassandra Abram; her great-grandchildren: Kaylee McCann, Scotty Jr., Annybell and Aryonna Abram; and her best friends, Hope Armstrong and Sandy Zerba-Thomas; her godson, Bradley Varner. She was preceded in death by her father; her daughter, Savannah Armstrong; and her sister, Cassie Clinton. A Farewell Celebration will be July 24 at 2 p.m. at Woodpecker Lodge at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Melissa. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
