Mildred Irene Porter, 97 of Cambridge, died Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the Cambridge United Methodist Church (215 2nd Street) in Cambridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery near Cambridge.
Mildred was born September 18, 1925, in rural Cambridge, the daughter of John and Nellie (Brown) Curtis. On August 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Frank Tillman Porter in Des Moines. Frank passed away in 1980. Mildred worked 17 years for Kerr's Café in Cambridge and babysat in her home.
Mildred enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, baking, and watching the cardinals and hummingbirds in her flowers. She was an avid fan of Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball. Mildred also enjoyed traveling, especially fishing in Walker, Minnesota. She loved spending time with her family.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann (Larry) Cunningham of Boone; her grandchildren, Amy Erickson (fiancée Brent Hilgenberg), Andrea (Chuck) Hudson and Katie Cunningham (fiancée Kyle Alyea); her great-grandchildren, Trent, Mckenna and Addison Hudson, Preston Pfaffle, Landon, Greyson and Hallie Cunningham and Jensen Alyea (on the way); her son-in-law, Dennis Erickson; and her special friend, Pam Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her companion, Howard McCauley; her son, John Edward Porter (in infancy); her sister, Margaret Curtis (in infancy); her half-sister, Wadena Haught; and her beloved Poodle, Taffy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorcas Society in Cambridge in memory of Mildred.
